People working together, co-creating, building on each other's ideas, and developing a sense of collective ownership in the process. Add a dash of expert facilitation and artistry, and you’ve got applied creativity in action.
I read a Substack post recently from someone who said he was using AI to create infographics in the style of Magic Marker on Whiteboard, because they produced many times more engagement than the slick illustrative AI outputs he was using.
Yes quite right Des and I can get a bit depressed seeing the shortcuts of AI instead of the idea amplifiers and originality of having to think like a human.
As I mentioned in my piece we need the craft to remain palpable for humans not to have it boiled out of us - as if we are being cooked like vegetables.
I’m not impressed either when my work gets compared with those simply drawing on walls for simply pretty verbatim capture. It has its place but a tape recorder might be a better idea in that use case. (Do they still make those?)
I completely get it. The skill isn’t just in drawing; it's in being able to read the room, encourage, cajole, pull at strands, and join the fragments together. Knowing what good looks (and feels) like. It’s creative leadership.
You should share your work more. It’s extraordinary. We need creative leaders now more than ever.
Thanks Des, will slip the occasional one in - am just so averse to using these platforms as sales shop windows. I know you get that. Enjoying the discourse!
I have watched and participated in, this process so many times and can attest to its effectiveness. However what you don’t mention is that it is a lot more than this that makes it work. Yes you are a very talented artist and that is what most people comment on.
However the real essence is your intelligence, experience, curiosity and incredible ability to unpack complexity and address issues with clarity to enable deeper understanding.
It’s even more than that but I don’t have all afternoon to sit around here blowing smoke!
Well that's super kind. And obviously powerful coming unsolicited and from you especially!
Like I mentioned I rarely talk about what I do but with all the noise on tech, synthetics, I was moved to the analogue insight.
I know you also believe in the human craft and direct contact no matter how much we are surrounded by incredible tech! And after 50 years it's the one technology i still cant see being replaced. (yet)
Fantastic work, John.

Missing the point somewhat, me thinks.

It’s probably why I don’t share my work. 😂
